Why we don't put branding on our hire cars
When we started The Loamy Cape in 2017, we noticed a recurring request from our 47 original corporate clients: they wanted the car to look like their own. We decided then to remove every single sticker, barcode, and logo from our fleet to ensure total privacy for every journey.
The problem with fleet identifiers
Walk through any car park in Cardiff Bay and you will spot a rental car in about 12 seconds. They usually have a small barcode on the side window or a bright yellow sticker on the rear bumper listing a website. For a standard holiday run, this is fine, but for a business meeting on Greyfriars Road, it changes how people see you. We found that 31% of our executive clients felt that visible rental branding made them look less established when arriving at a client site for a pitch.
Since October 2021, we have made it a strict rule to strip every vehicle that joins our fleet. This includes removing the dealer-branded number plate surrounds and replacing them with plain, legal black frames. It takes our team about 3 hours to fully 'de-brand' a new arrival, ensuring no glue residue remains on the paintwork. This small detail means that when you pull up to the Parkgate Hotel, the doorman sees a private vehicle, not a fleet car from a mass-market rental agency.
A car with a 'Hire Me' sticker looks temporary. A clean black SUV looks like you have arrived for a reason.

Security and the clean cabin promise
There is a practical safety side to this choice that many people overlook. A branded rental car is a magnet for attention when parked outside a restaurant or a hotel in a city you don't know well. Thieves often target cars with rental stickers because they assume the boot is full of laptops, luggage, and passports. By keeping our Land Rovers and Audis completely anonymous, we provide an extra layer of security for the 83 regular business travellers who trust us with their Cardiff commutes.
Our 'Clean cabin promise' extends this philosophy to the interior. You won't find 'no smoking' stickers plastered on the dashboard or plastic tags hanging from the rearview mirror. We keep the cabin smelling like leather and fresh air, not industrial cleaning chemicals. In the last 14 months, we have had 11 different clients tell us that they appreciated the lack of visual clutter, allowing them to focus on their notes before a 9:00 AM board meeting.
Professional image for the 2.5-hour run
If you are booking a quiet airport run to Heathrow, which is a 134-mile journey from Cardiff, you are likely spending at least 2 hours and 14 minutes in the vehicle. Our clients often use this time to take calls or hold video meetings. Arriving at a global headquarters in a car that screams 'Budget Rental' can feel off-brand for a senior partner or a director. We believe your transport should be a neutral tool, not a rolling billboard for our company.
We've seen this matter most during site visits to industrial parks in Newport or the Valleys. When a consultant arrives to conduct an audit, appearing in a private-looking vehicle helps them blend in rather than standing out as an outsider. This is why we have never put a single 'The Loamy Cape' sticker on any of our 12 vehicles. Our reputation is built on the quality of the drive, not on how many people see our logo on the M4.
We want people to ask who you are, not where you rented the car from.

Maintenance without the shortcuts
Maintaining a clean fleet requires more work than just a quick wash. Every car undergoes a 47-point check every Friday afternoon at our unit in CF10. Because we don't have stickers to hide behind, every minor stone chip or scratch is visible, so we fix them immediately. We use a local specialist in Penarth who handles all our paint corrections to ensure the finish remains mirror-like. Honestly, it costs us about £1,200 more per car annually to maintain this standard, but we think it is worth the effort.
Our drivers who know the lanes also take pride in the car's appearance. They don't just drive; they ensure the car is presented perfectly before every pick-up. If a car has even a single smudge on the window after a rainy trip from Bristol Airport, it is wiped down before the next client sees it. This dedication to a 'No stickers on cars' policy is part of our wider commitment to a premium experience that doesn't feel like a transaction.
