About David Thorne
David Thorne started The Loamy Cape in February 2017. He began with a single executive car and a basic plan. He wanted to offer a ride that was actually quiet. Before this, he spent 8 years working in transport logistics around South Wales. He noticed that many private hire cars felt cluttered or smelled like cheap air fresheners. David decided to strip all that away. No stickers on the car bodywork and no distractions inside the cabin.
He runs the operation from our base at 15 Park Lane. Every morning at 6:45 AM, David is in the garage. He checks the tyre treads and the cabin air filters himself. He believes that a car should be ready in 4 hours for any local booking. This focus on the small things has helped us grow to a fleet of 8 vehicles. We currently manage travel for 43 local businesses that need reliable airport runs every week.
David knows the lanes between Cardiff and London better than most. If the M4 is blocked at the Brynglas Tunnels, he has a plan. He trains his team of 5 drivers to use local knowledge instead of just looking at a phone screen. He often says that a good driver knows where the road works are before the radio even mentions them. This keeps our arrival times consistent for those 6:15 AM flights from Bristol or Heathrow.
We stay small on purpose. David wants to keep the service personal. He knows the travel preferences of our 27 most frequent flyers. He ensures the car temperature is set to exactly what they like before the driver arrives at their door. Honesty is his main rule. If a journey will take longer due to roadworks on the A48, he tells the client immediately. We do not make promises we cannot keep just to get a booking.
David also handles all the maintenance schedules. In 2023, he moved the fleet to a new servicing plan to prevent breakdowns before they ever happen. He keeps the pricing clear and fixed for all regular routes. You will not find hidden fees for luggage or peak times here. It is a straightforward service for people who value their time and a bit of peace on the road. By the way, David still does the long-distance runs to Gatwick himself twice a week to stay sharp on the route timings.
